Director, Tax Credits

Facilitate and support of all aspects of MCN SR&ED and IDMTC client engagements.

As the Director, SR&ED and IDMTC, you will be responsible for the delivery and support of all aspects of MCN SR&ED and IDMTC client engagements. You will lead and develop a diverse team of consultants helping MCN clients navigate the multitude of government incentive programs and funding opportunities. As a competent and trusted advisor, you will help MCN clients identify and structure eligible projects and deliver customized tax strategies within a complex and dynamic regulatory framework.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery and support all aspects of MCN SR&ED and IDMTC client engagements, take care of client needs, and maintain a high level of customer satisfaction and retention by ensuring accurate preparation, comprehensive reviews, and timely completion of SR&D and IDMTC claims for MCN clients.
  • Supervise the work of MCN consultants, oversee the preparation of SR&ED and IDMTC claims and review deliverables prior to their release to clients.
  • Review SR&ED and IDMTC claims in the context of clients' financial statements, T2 tax returns and other available financial and business information to maximize the SR&ED and IDM tax credits while ensuring the high quality and defensibility of the claims.
  • Serve as the primary liaison with the CRA and oversee CRA audits related to SR&ED and IDMTC claims.
  • Engage, identify, and maintain relationships with clients and prospects. Examine clients' and prospects' operations, determine their eligibility for various tax credits and funding programs, and develop appropriate funding methodology to maximize tax incentives available to each client/prospect.
  • Maintain an up-to-date understanding of the industry trends and the SR&ED program, including legislation, application policies, case law, and Canada Revenue Agency administrative practices.
  • Guide teams in understanding all aspects of SR&ED and IDMTC policies and administration, focusing on financial and tax matters
  • Develop, retain, and attract talent. Lead, train, and mentor staff and invest in the professional development of the MCN team.

Qualifications

  • CPA designation with a bachelor's or master's degree in finance/accounting or a related field. Completion of the In-Depth Tax program or other tax specialist courses/designations is considered an asset.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in managing a team at an accounting or consulting practice and a demonstrated commitment to attracting, developing, and coaching talent.
  • Extensive experience with the SR&ED tax credit program, including preparing and defending SR&ED claims in computer science, computer engineering, bioinformatics, and related fields.
  • Up-to-date SR&ED knowledge, including legislation, application policies, case law and Canada Revenue Agency administrative practices.
  • Experience dealing with CxO-level stakeholders and direct customer interactions.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills combined with intellectual curiosity and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Prior experience as an RTM, FM, RTA or FR at the CRA is a strong asset.
